Why Do We Need Boating Safety Programs?
The New York Times launched an article that covered the rise of boating fatalities on the water.
"There were 767 boating fatalities in the United States in 2020, an increase of more than 25 percent from 2019, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Total accidents increased 26 percent, and the number of nonfatal injured victims increased 25 percent. Statistics for 2021 have yet to be reported, but preliminary data from the Coast Guard show casualty numbers so far to be even higher." - N.Y. Times
What is the most startling part of the 767 fatalities? The boat operator had no boat training in 77% of the fatal cases. It is our duty to put an end to these needless deaths.
Almost everyone enjoys boating, rightfully so. Who can resist being on the water with family and friends. Make sure to do your part in taking the preventative measures to make sure those you love are safe on the water.
